Brereton - Stone Old Alleynians 2
Stone Old Alleynians moved into third position with a comfortable victory in the local derby against Brereton Town. Stone looked in control for long periods of the game and created many chances. They took the lead after Dale Kinnersley’s through ball found Mark Fox who was brought down by the home keeper. Jon Moore-Tabb slotted home the resultant penalty on 30 minutes.  On 46 minutes Moore-Tabb’s effort was headed off the line. Brereton equalised on 60 minutes, against the run of play, with their only real effort on target in the game. However, ten minutes later Tom Davis glanced home Dan Kocyigit’s in-swinging free kick just inside the back post. Numerous players failed to convert excellent chances towards the end including Simon Blanchard and Chris Hall, both of whom only had the keeper to beat.

Manager Richard Jones said,
“We were pleased with three points but felt as though we should have increased our goal difference a little more. Our composure in the final third is letting us down at the moment. We tend to get lots of good chances, where the players have time to think. Maybe its best to just have instinctive chances. Many players have been out injured or unavailable over the first eight weeks, so to be in third position shows an excellent start to the season. Hopefully there is some light at the end of the tunnel as several key players are due to return next week.”

West Midlands Regional League Division 2
Mahal 2 - Stone Old Alleynians 2

Stone Old Alleynians remain the only unbeaten team in the division with a solid fighting performance away at Smethwick based Mahal. Stone looked dangerous from the start and a Michael Perry header was cleared off the line within thirty seconds. Mark Fox converted an identical effort on three minutes when he glanced a long throw in past the keeper from six yards. Perry again went close but for an excellent last ditch block from a covering defender. Stone then had to defend in numbers for the rest of the first period and struggled to get out of their own half whilst kicking into a strong wind. Mahal equalised from close range, following slack marking, on 43 minutes. Disaster struck on 60 minutes when a quick Mahal breakaway resulted in a fine goal from 18 yards. In response, last seasons most improved player, Dale Kinnersley, rattled the bar from 18 yards out before he equalised on 85 minutes with a back post header from a Mark Fox cross. Substitute Dan Kocyigit had an excellent chance late on to win it for Alleynians but couldn’t quite stretch far enough to poke the ball past the onrushing keeper.

Manager Richard Jones said,
“We were down to the bare bones of the squad today with many players unavailable, out injured or two even failing to show up. However, our squad is much stronger this season in that any replacements don’t weaken the team at all, we have 20 solid players. The most important thing to take from the game on Saturday was that we are still unbeaten after seven games and we actually moved up a position to second place. Mahal are strongly fancied to finish high in the table this year and we restricted them to just two efforts on goal away from home, unfortunately both were successful.

A poor display by the visitors saw them go in 2-0 down at half-time. The second half was just a poor as the first with the Alleys letting in another three goals without reply. Manager Chris Tabener couldn't hide his bitter disappointment and was quoted as saying " Things have definitely got to change for the next game!"
What can I say? GET YER FINGERS OUT LADS! It'll get harder now R I Spartans have dropped out and Div 2 & Div 3 are being amalgamated inot the new Div 2 - No1.

West Midlands Regional League Division 2
Stone Old Alleynians 1 - Heath Town Rangers res 0
Stone Old Alleynians chalked up their fourth consecutive league win, in front of their biggest home gate of the season, against a previously unbeaten Heath Town side. Missing key player Paul Hollins, the return of Andy Lipscomb was the only change to the previous weeks squad, along with new signing Tony Dale. Numerous Stone attacks, in the first ten minutes, seemed to break down crucially in the opponents final third, the best chance being a Lipscomb glancing header just wide of the post. However, on 13 minutes, following excellent possessional play down the left flank, debutant Tony Dale fired high into the roof of the Heath Town net from 15 yards to give Alleynians the lead. On twenty minutes, skipper Tim Buckley had to be replaced due to injury. Michael Perry had a great chance on 35 minutes, cutting in from the left, but firing straight at the keeper from a tight angle. The second half was a very tight affair, with little, real action at either end. The turning point of the game proved to be on 65 minutes when Stone goalkeeper, Richard Stone magnificently saved a Heath Town penalty, catching the ball low down to his left.
Assistant Manager Craig Atkinson said:-
"We had a lot of players carrying injuries, playing through the pain barrier, Lee Bailey and Andy Lipscomb in particular, whilst Tony Dale up front had an excellent debut. The game was won by our shear determination to succeed and move higher up the table, hopefully into the top two. Given our current form, we are very pleased to be capturing the imagination of the local public at last, it was great to top the 100 attendance mark for the first time this season."

Team:
Richard Stone; Tim Buckley; Tom Davis; Lee Bailey; Andy Hulme; Dale Kinnersley; Dave Beachill;
Andy Lipscomb; Michael Perry; Jon Moore-Tabb; Tony Dale(1).

Stone Old Alleynians 3 - Screwfix AFC 5
Sloppy first half defending and failing to win the tackles in midfield cost us dear in this game and we ended the half 1-4 down. Our goal by Andy Price. The second half saw us up the tempo of the game and winning a lot more tackles in the middle of the park. Although Andy Price found the net to claim his brace and veteran Lee Bridgett was on target the opposition still managed to put one past our 'keeper. Unable to push home our advantage in this half we ended up losing 3-5. Manager Chris Tabener said " I was extremely disappointed with the first half but very pleased with our response in the second!". I know I'm a West Ham United supporter but I ask you lads! Did he have to give me this report by blowing bubbles down the phone to me from his bath!! - No1 (UP THE HAMMERS!).

Team: Andy Robinson; Chris Hall; Gregg Blair; Kenny Barton; Dave Latham; Rob Pitstock; Lee Bridgett(1);

West Midlands Regional League Division 2
Bustleholme 1 - Stone Old Alleynians 4
Following the two-one (Perry, Moore-Tabb) defeat of Brereton Town on Bank Holiday Monday, Stone Old Aleynians chalked up their third consecutive league victory with a convincing four-one win at Birmingham based Bustleholme. Stone looked lively early on and on 15 minutes Dave Beachill reacted quickly to head home after Michael Perry’s initial header had hit the bar from a Paul Hollins cross. On 30 minutes, Paul Hollins once more delivered a fine cross for debutant Jordan Gayle to scramble home from 6 yards. Provider turned scorer on 43 minutes when Hollins and Buckley worked a short corner before Hollins curled the ball in at the far post from the corner of the box. Bustleholme scored within a minute of the restart and Stone were forced to defend resolutely for the remainder of the game. In the dying moments however, Mark Fox’s cross from near the corner flag evaded the keeper at the back post, to finally seal matters.
Manager Richard Jones said, “This victory took us to joint second in the table. On paper, we were missing several key players in Rainford, Lipscomb and Riley, but for the first time this season we converted all of our chances. It wasn’t a great performance by any means but it was extremely professional in that we defended solidly under pressure and there was a desire to win that hasn’t always been obvious. We haven’t had a settled side yet, we’ve used twenty-four players in five games including four keepers, and some of our players are really struggling for fitness having missed parts of pre-season. But, at the moment, we are getting away with it, however, individual commitment and fitness will need to improve if we are to remain at the top end.”  "Stone OA reserves recorded a resounding victory over Dudley Spartans, Tom Horton leading the way with five goals."

Stone Old Alleynians 16 - RI Spartan 1
As the score-line suggests this was a one sided game. Alleynians got off the mark within 6 seconds through a Dave Latham goal.  Tom Horton was next on the sheet, he latched onto a fine cross from Andy Tabener, who ran the ball to the line and crossed back into the area to give Tom an easy tap-in. Within minutes there was a repeat performance with the same end result, to put the home side three goals up. A close range chance fell to Andy Tabener but their 'keeper advance out to save the shot. Andy shot just wide a little later. Veteran Lee Bridgett got in on the action with a 20yard effort to further extend Alleynians lead. Andy Tabener was soon in action, again with a shot on goal that hit the cross-bar and rebounded straight into the path of a goal hungry Tom Horton who took his goal with relish for his hat-trick. Dave Latham popped the ball over a defender and hit it on the volley, once again the ball rebounded off the cross-bar, this time into an oncoming Kevin Bailey who drove the ball into the oppositions net. Just minutes later Kevin added another goal to his tally. Then Kevin scored his third goal (all in 5mins) to complete his hat-trick and put his side 8-0 up at half-time. The second half started as the first half had finished for the Alleys, when Andy Tabener claimed his first goal. The goal was set up by another SOA veteran, Danny Rainford, who played the ball on for Andy to score his goal. Not long after Danny got on the score sheet himself with a superbly struck 20 yarder. Tom Horton was back on target a little later when another rebound saw him bury it with a fine header. New signing Cliff Barton increased our lead still further as he drove his effort home. Danny Rainford grabbed his brace when he drove his effort into the bottom right hand corner of the visitors net. Another chance fell to Danny just a few minutes later. Unfortunately he saw his volleyed shot hit the woodwork. Danny then made the run that set up Tom Horton's next goal. Soon after Andy Tabener was back on the score sheet to make his brace. A break out by the visitors saw them score against Paul Darlington, who had missed an earlier penalty. Just as full-time was approaching Dave Latham made his brace with an absolute pile-driver of a goal. The final scoreline was 16-1.
The manager Chris Tabener was over the moon and said "That's a fantastic start, let's try and play like that all season!". This first win has put us top of the division 3 league table!

Tenbury United 1 - Stone Old Alleynians 2

Stone Old Alleynians secured their first victory of the season with a well deserved victory at Tenbury United courtesy of goals from Michael Perry and Jon Moore-Tabb. Tenbury rarely threatened the visitors goal and Stone were unlucky not to take the lead when Tim Buckley's free kick struck the bar and Jamie Riley's close range finish was ruled out for offside Alleynians eventually broke the deadlock on 43 minutes when a slick move down the right saw Perry head home from a pinpoint Lipscomb cross. After the break, Jon Moore-Tabb struck home, first time, from 15 yards from Perry's cross. Tenbury reduced the arrears on 65 minutes from a set piece but Stone continued to press and missed a host of chances to further their lead. Sub Beachill shot over from close range, Hough hit the post and Riley rounded the keeper but his shot was cleared off the line. Riley also had another goal ruled out for offside as he coolly lobbed the keeper from 30 yards.

Manager Richard Jones said, "We really took the game to them but we were guilty of poor decision making in the final third with several players lacking the composure to finish the game off. On several occasions we outnumbered their defence but couldn't work the ball through them. However, three points away from home was our target which we achieved comfortably. We must learn to finish teams off better though."

Saturday 18th August, 2007
West Midlands Regional League Division 2
Stone Old Alleynians 0 - Powick 0

Stone Old Alleynians obtained a point from their first home game of the season in a scoreless draw at home to Powick. With several players missing through injury, clear cut chances were minimal throughout the game with both teams struggling to break down solid rearguards. On twenty minutes, Paul Hollins had Stone's first real effort as his 20 yard shot, following a corner, was destined for the goal only to be cruelly blocked by team mate Jon Moore-Tabb on the goal line with the keeper beaten. Michael Perry then burst through minutes later but flashed his shot across the goal, narrowly evading the far upright. With two minutes of the first half remaing, Perry's 30 yard free kick struck the heart of the crossbar before rebounding to safety. Hassall in the Stone goal had not yet been tested by a Powick team playing with a solitary striker. The second half saw Stone's Jamie Riley burst through the visiting defence only to be physically hauled back by the retreating defender which, unbelievably, didn't even merit a yellow card.

Team: Steve Hassall, Gareth Hardwick, Chris Johnson, Tim Buckley, Danny Rainford, Paul Hollins, Mark Fox, Andy Lipscomb, Jamie Riley, Michael Perry, Jon Moore-Tabb.
Subs: Adam Johns, Wayne Chadwick.

Manager Richard Jones said, "We have made a pleasing, unbeaten start in our new league but we were striving to make it four points out of six rather than just two points. The positive point was a clean sheet, in which we restricted Powick to just one chance on goal. The disappointing aspect being that we haven't yet recorded a victory in either game when we could easily be sitting nicely on top of the table with a full six points. This Saturday we travel to Tenbury United hoping to bring back the full three points available."

Saturday 11th August, 2007
West Midlands Regional League Division 2
Bilston Town 3 - Stone Old Alleynians 3

In their first game at West Midlands League standard, Stone Old Alleynians were desperately unlucky to concede an equaliser with just 30 seconds remaining. Kicking against the wind up a steep incline in the first half, Alleynians were facing intense pressure for the first 45 minutes. Bilston went ahead on 30 minutes from the spot after the Stone goalkeeper, Kerr, had brought down an opposing forward and just two minutes later Bilston were two-nil up following a long range strike. In the 43rd minute, Andy Hulme swept a long pass out to Paul Hollins whose left wing cross was met expertly by Michael Perry who headed in from six yards. On sixty minutes Paul Hollins once again put Michael Perry through who slotted in an equaliser past the home keeper from 20 yards. In the 70th minute, sub Wayne Chadwick played a delightful 50-yard pass behind the Bilston defence for Perry to run onto before being hauled down by the keeper. Jon Moore-Tabb stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way to send Stone into the lead for the first time in the game. The lead lasted until 30 seconds from time when Bilston capitalised on poor Stone defending to equalise in heartbreaking fashion.

Team: Josh Kerr, Chris Johnson, Andy Hulme, Lee Bailey, Dave Beachill, Mark Fox, Andy Lipscomb,
Jon Moore-Tabb, Michael Perry, Paul Hollins.
Subs: Wayne Chadwick.

Manager Richard Jones said, “Many key players were missing due to a wedding and we turned up at Bilston not knowing what standard to expect. What we do know now is that Bilston proved to be a better team than most teams we played in the Staffs County League last season. Bilston had great joy playing downhill and getting in behind our defence. I asked our players to do likewise after about 35 minutes. No sooner did we start to do it that we came back into the game and took control, however we were two-nil down at that point. As a result, on the three occasions we played a long pass in behind their defence we scored, with Michael Perry proving to be a threat every time he attacked. Defensively, we struggled to cope with Bilston on the break. Each of their goals came from our players not tracking back or being strong enough to hold up play and to concede an equaliser so late on, after so much hard work, was so frustrating. But at two-nil down we would have accepted a point. Particular praise must go to new signing Lee Bailey who kept Bilston at bay with several pieces of fine defending.

This Saturday sees Alleynians face Worcester based Powick FC at Springbank Park (Yarnfield), 3pm ko.
